Jean Bartlett Holiday Cottages

Pretty Riverside Villages

If you are looking for a restful holiday away from the madding crowd, why not try one of our cottages in Devon and Dorset villages close to the sea. You can experience the peace and tranquillity of a village location, surrounded by beautiful countryside for walking, birdwatching or simply relaxing, whilst all of the local beaches are only a short trip away.

Axmouth is a pretty riverside village, with two inns, church and Post Office amidst a clutter of character cottages just five minutes drive from the coast. Surrounded by glorious countryside Axmouth is a superb location for families wanting to explore the area and for visitors who like walking, watching birds or simply enjoying the natural beauty of the River Axe. The nearest beach and town facilities are at Seaton with beaches at Beer and Lyme Regis within easy reach.

Colyton is a medieval small town about ten minutes inland from the coast; it is the ideal destination for an easy self-catering holiday where you can leave the car at home and have every facility at hand. There is a good selection of local shops, a handful of pubs, restaurants and tea rooms, plus an antiques centre, art gallery and very interesting garden shop. All this, plus a fascinating church, peaceful riverside walks, play areas for children and the Tram service to the coast at Seaton. Colyton is a resort for couples, families or indeed anyone seeking a convenient holiday destination at any time of the year. The rural villages of Colyford, Musbury and Whitford are a short drive away.

Topsham is an attractive Devon town on the Exe estuary in England's west country. Although close to Exeter, it nevertheless maintains a distinctive identity with its historic Dutch houses, narrow winding streets and stunning estuary views. Loved by locals and savoured by those who visit, Topsham offers river walks, ferry trips, wildlife, a Saturday morning market, many characterful shops (including a specialist cheese shop) its own vineyard, restaurants and inns, and just quiet space to sit and watch the sailing boats go by.
